Summary

The Three-Channel Optical nTAP includes a connection to either side of three full-duplex links under test, and three standard full-duplex analyzer connections. Optical nTAPs support gigabit single-mode, gigabit multimode, and 10 Gb single-mode and multimode traffic. LC connections are standard.

Optical nTAPs split the full-duplex signal from the network into two signals, sending one signal back to the network and the other signal to the monitoring device, which is required to be equipped with a dual-receive capture card. Signal split ratios of 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, 80/20, and 90/10 are available to support your network requirement.

Every nTAP works with the leading security and network management tools, so you can easily deploy them throughout the network. As with all nTAPs, optical nTAPs are transparent, allowing you to monitor critical links without data stream interference. And by installing nTAPs, you never need to bring the link down to connect a monitoring device.

Compatibility

Optical nTAPs are compatible with:

  • Network/protocol analyzers
  • Security monitoring devices
  • Forensic tools
  • Remote monitoring appliances
  • RMON probes

Technology

  • Optical nTAPs require no power to operate
  • Optical nTAPs transfer network data at line rate from full-duplex gigabit or 10 gigabit links to a monitoring or analysis device equipped with a dual receive capture card
  • nTAPs can be permanently deployed without interfering with network performance or introducing a point of failure
  • Because nTAPs are not addressable devices, they cannot be the target of a hack or virus attack
  • Three nTAP units can be mounted in a single 1U rack panel

nTAP Advantages

  • Compact design
  • Economical to install
  • High density solution
  • Will not block error packets
  • Failover redundancy compatible
  • Meets international RF Emission standards

Deployment

Three-Channel Optical nTAP
Place a Three-Channel Optical nTAP between two devices of interest on a full-duplex optical link. Then attach an optical monitoring device to the nTAP. To successfully analyze the full-duplex link, the monitoring device must be equipped with a dual-receive capture card.
